Phosphatizing, or phosphate conversion coating, is a metal pretreatment primarily used to prepare steel for paint or coatings and prevent corrosion. Unlike paint or traditional coatings, phosphatizing chemically changes the surface to a new substance, ensuring that the coating will not chip or scratch off, thereby providing long-lasting protection against corrosion and wear.
Products with a surface made of Black phosphatized sheet steel are intentionally left unpainted to showcase the unique and exquisite beauty of their natural metal surfaces. The daily use will form stains, creating a patina that further enhances the surface’s beauty.
Upon delivery, the phosphatized surface has been treated with beeswax. To prepare it for use, start by cleaning it with a dry rag to remove any traces of oxidation and wax. For regular maintenance, use a non-aggressive, soft detergent like wood. We recommend applying beeswax to the surface twice a year and removing it after one night for optimal care.
If you prefer a different look, you can opt for the epoxy-painted version as an alternative to the natural patina that forms on the phosphatized surface.
